Space Around My Neck
This inspiration for this work is a gesture of putting something around your neck as a transformation from one state into another. Like a mayor wearing a chain of office, an olympic winner wearing a medal or a criminal of the past receiving a noose. The act of wearing a “thread” encircling the space between the neck and the pubic bone becomes a declaration of the new identity. The gradient in the colouring of the pieces refers to the passing of time.
The pieces were made in 2015 and this installation was made in 2019 at the beautiful space of Ærø Kunsthal at Ærøskobing in Denmark.
